Coach Bio: Coach Sammie

Sammie Spears

As a military veteran and the son of a veteran, you could say that Sammie has been in the military his whole life. He was born in Bangkok, Thailand and spent his childhood in the U.S., Europe and Asia. Although he calls Arizona home, he recently hails from Colorado and is still adapting to life at sea level! Sammie became active in sports ranging from tennis to tackle football at a young age. While serving as a medic in the military, he became well versed in health and wellness and held positions as a military physical training leader and fitness program manager. In those positions, he designed work out plans emphasizing functional movement principles; all of which enhanced what he calls “The Human Weapon System”. He led countless individual and group physical training sessions stateside and in deployment locations.

Sammie’s interest in human physical performance prompted him to engage in various activities. He trained and competed in combat sports, mainly Thai-style kickboxing. After a experiencing a major medical event, he turned to endurance sports to challenge himself outside of the ring. Since that time, he has completed century rides and dozens of running events from 5k races to 50k ultra-marathons; each of which he dedicated the memory of a fallen service member. Sammie was first exposed to CrossFit in 2010, but it wasn’t until 2012 while on deployment that he truly adapted to this lifestyle and has since used CF methodologies as the foundation of his fitness training. He then obtained his CF-L1 and personal trainer certification and held a CrossFit coaching position in Colorado prior to coming to EFC.

One of his passions is to assist people in achieving their personal fitness goals through CF methodologies, while providing a solid foundation for lifetime wellness. Sammie believes that developing physical strength and confidence through fitness, will enhance the mental strength, confidence and character needed to be successful in all aspects of life; which is the basis of his personal mantra of “Live With Relentless Intent”.
